With Christmas just around the corner, many people are looking to get in the holiday spirit. One way people can start getting ready for Christmas is watching Christmas movies.
Oxford High senior Ally Weatherly’s favorite Christmas movie is How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).
“My favorite is most definitely The Grinch because he and I are one in the same,” Weatherly said.
The film stars Jim Carrey – known for films such as Dumb and Dumber and The Truman Show – as the Grinch and Taylor Momsen, who would go on to star in TV teen drama Gossip Girl, as Cindy Lou Who.
Back in 1993, Jim Carrey had been chosen to play the lead in a Christmas movie about an Elf who travels to New York City to find his biological father. The movie was postponed and released 10 years later starring SNL alum Will Ferrell, and called simply Elf.
Sophomore Annie Forgette’s favorite holiday movie is the 2003 film Elf, starring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf and The Godfather’s James Caan as his biological father.
“My favorite Christmas movie is Elf because it’s funny and always gets me in the Christmas spirit,” Forgette said.
So, as Buddy the Elf says, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
Or, of course, watching a Christmas movie.
