Yesterday, The Boy’s and Girl’s Track teams placed first at their district meet.
The Boy’s Track Team accumulated a total of 128 points. In the distance field, senior Tristan Orman and Sophomore Johnathan Tyler placed first and second in the mile and two mile respectively. Sophomore Devin Rockette placed first in the 100 meter dash, Sophomore Kenard Harris and Freshman Jaquan Webb placed second and third in the 200 meter respectively, sophomore Kenard Harris and sophomore Aj Gable placed first and second respectively in the 400 meter dash, and Junior Alex Thomas and Senior Pruitt Griffin placed first and second in the 800 meter respectively. D.K. Metcalf placed first in 110 meter hurdles as well as the 300 meter hurdles, and Ken Presley placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. Sophomore Jared Redding placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. In the boy’s 400×100 meter relay, the boy’s 4×200 meter relay, and the boy’s 4×400 meter relay, the Oxford team placed first. Nationally ranked senior Shelby Mcewen placed first in the High Jump. Junior Tias Hilliard placed second in the pole vault as well as placing third in the Long Jump. Junior D.K. Metcalf placed second in the Triple Jump. In the field events, the Boy’s team competed well. Senior Michael Mcghee and senior Colin Le placed first and second respectively in the Shot Put. Senior Colin Le and senior D.Q. Thomas placed first and second respectively in the Discus Throw.
The Oxford Girl’s Track Team won district with 134 points. The Girl’s team was strong placing first in almost every event. Junior Montayshia Wadley and Sophomore Tiara King placed first and second respectively in the 100 Meter Dash. Sophomore Tiara King and eighth grader Kadijah Ramsey placed first and second respectively in the 200 meter dash. Sophomore Jakiara Dunn and Sophomore Sylvia Culpepper placed first and second respectively in the 400 meter dash. Senior Emily Hankins and Sophomore Swayze Elliott placed first and second respectively in the 800 meter run. Hankins and Elliott placed first and third in the 1600 meter run. Freshman Margaret Adams and Senior Emily Hankins placed first and second in the 3200 meter run. In the 100 meter Hurdles, Senior Rajah Ramsey and eighth grader Emily Hayward placed first and third respectively. Hayward also placed first in the 300 meter Hurdles. The Girl’s team placed first in all relay races: the 4×100, 4×200 meter, and the 4×400 meter. Freshmen Charlie Kendricks and Arden Davis placed first and second respectively in the Pole Vault. Senior Janesha Johnson placed first in the Long Jump as well as the Triple Jump. Sophomore Monya Baskin and senior Kia Pegues placed first and second in the Girls shot put. Senior Kia Pegues and Jerrica Hickinbottom placed first and second in the Discus Throw.
Both teams will compete at regionals next Saturday at the Oxford Track.
