Week five MVP: RB Roman Gregory (12 Car, 86 Yds, 2 TD)

With the 38-0 win over Murrah, Oxford is now 3-2 on the season. The Chargers host the Tupelo Golden Wave tonight at 7:00 pm. The Golden Wave has an undefeated record, 5-0, before tonight.  Tupelo won 35-6 in their recent game against Grenada.

Players to watch:

Oxford RB Roman Gregory: 5’10” 180 lbs junior for Oxford. This season, Gregory averages 5.7 yards per carry with a total of 263 yards. He has a total of 4 touchdowns on the season. With Gregory’s quickness and ability to squeeze through a defense, Gregory will be a tough player to stop against Tupelo.

Tupelo NG Tyler Vaughn: 5’10” 215 lbs junior for Tupelo. This season, Vaughn has a total of 45 total tackles with averaging 9 tackles per game. With 30 solo tackles on the season, Vaughn will definitely be a player to watch as he has exploded through offenses throughout the season.

Oxford LB Keegan Wilfawn: 5’11” 220 lbs senior for Oxford. This season, with only 4 real games played, Wilfawn has accumulated a total of 19 solo tackles and 24 total tackles. Wilfawn has always been a player to look out for on the field for the Chargers but for this game, Wilfawn will definitely be one to watch.

Tupelo RB Quay Middlebrooks: 5’9” 157 lbs sophomore for Tupelo. This season, Middlebrooks averages 6.8 yards per carry with a total of 374 yards. He averages 74.8 yards a game. With having 4 TDs on the season, Middlebrooks is one to look for in the endzone.

X Factor:

Oxford’s Offense: I have said it the whole season, and I will say it again. While the Chargers lost WRs due to graduation, the Charger offense will have to be focused during the game. The Chargers are known as a second half team and usually score the most after the half time talk. Having multiple QBs and RBs helps keep the backfield fresh for the Chargers. The X Factor for Friday’s game will not only be the offense for Oxford, but mainly the WRs. They will have to set the tone and keep up the energy throughout the game against Tupelo.

Prediction

Coming off of a dominant win against Murrah, the Chargers had a chance to clean their game up. The Chargers will have more confidence coming into this game, but so will the Golden Wave. The Golden Wave are 5-0 on the season and are hungry for a 6-0 record. But, even with Tupelo’s streak and Oxford’s offensive struggles, the Chargers will come out on top. 28-21, Chargers.
