Game Preview: Oxford Chargers (7-4) at South Panola Tigers (8-2)
Week eleven MVP: WR Dane Harmon (1 Rec, 43 YDs, 1 TD)
With the 48-7 loss against Madison Central, Oxford is now 7-4 on the season. The Chargers travel to Batesville to play South Panola tonight at 7 pm for the first round of playoffs. The Tigers are 8-2 on the season. South Panola won their most recent matchup against Center Hill 42-9.
Players to watch:
Oxford RB Roman Gregory: 5’10” 180 lbs junior for Oxford. This season, Gregory has a total of 1274 all-purpose yards. He has a total of 13 touchdowns on the season. With Gregory’s vision and ability to squeeze through a defense, Gregory will be a tough player to stop against South Panola.
South Panola QB David Hubbard: 5’11” 150 lbs junior for South Panola. This season, Hubbard has a total of 1232 passing yards with 16 passing TDs. Hubbard passes for 136.9 yards per game.
Oxford LB Keegan Wilfawn: 5’11” 220 lbs senior for Oxford. This season, Wilfawn has accumulated a total of 48 solo tackles and 64 total tackles. Wilfawn has always been a player to look out for on the field for the Chargers, but for this game Wilfawn will definitely be one to watch.
South Panola RB D’mariun Perteet: 5’11” 200 lbs junior for South Panola. This season Perteet has rushed for 862 yards. He averages 5.6 yards per carry and has a total of 10 rushing TDs. Perteet is a player to watch as he has put up big numbers during the season.
X Factor:
Oxford’s defensive backs: Oxford has a great group of DBs, but South Panola loves to keep the ball moving. Previously, South Panola has been throwing the ball more than running. The Tigers have a good group of players who pass and catch the ball. The X Factor for this game will be Oxford’s linebackers tackling the run game and Oxford’s defensive backs breaking up passes through the air.
Prediction:
Coming off of an away loss, the Chargers need a road win to stay alive in the playoffs. I am excited to see what the Chargers bring to the table as South Panola has a great record. 28-10, Chargers.
