e of Outstanding Teacher Of The Year by Lafayette County Soil & Water Conservation District. Amy Rosen, Physics and Physical Science teacher, is the Envirothon club advisor at Oxford High School. Rosen has been a part of the award winning Envirothon team since 2018.
“I like to help students see everyday things in life through the lens of scientific reasoning,” Rosen said.
Rosen works to help the Envirothon team learn and succeed.
“I help them recruit team members and get organized at the beginning of the year,” Rosen said. “I also arrange for experts to come and visit them and help train them during the spring, do paper work, and drive them to competitions.”
Rosen makes Envirothon a fun and educational club for the students that participate. The members of this club are very grateful for all she does.
“I think she deserves this award because she has done so much to ensure that our Envirothon team can be successful,” Junior Alex Ritchie and member of Envirothon said. “She helps to make sure that we get to attend training led by experts on the subjects that we compete in.”
Ritchie joined the club last year, and she has really enjoyed it so far.
“My favorite part has to be going to the competitions with my teammates and getting to show all the different things we have learned about our environment,” Ritchie said.
Senior Sneha Majumdar, who has been a member of Envirothon for four years, agrees with prior statements said about Rosen and her award.
“I think she is extremely deserving of this award because of how much she cares for us and her students,” Majumdar said. “She is always fighting for us to get all of the best opportunities, whether it be getting us specialty trainers or taking us to nationals. Mrs. Rosen truly spreads her love for science with us.”
Rosen’s commitment is one of the reasons that the members enjoy this club so much.
“I love envirothon because of the random things I get to learn,” Majumdar said. “I can now identify trees and animals I walk past. It’s so cool to learn so much about nature.”
Rosen also helps her students in her physical science class excell.
“I love having her as a teacher,” sophomore Jayden Tank and student in Rosen’s class said.
Rosen puts effort into her work and ensures her students understand the material.
“She explains things very well. She is a very hands-on teacher and does little activities to help us remember important parts of the units.”
