The OHS swim team is off to a great start as they finished second overall in their last meet. They recently concluded their regular season last Tuesday and are approaching the postseason. After setting many new school and state records last year, the bar is high for the team this year.
Football:
The Chargers in their season opener defeated Lafayette 45-0 in the crosstown classic. After that big win, the Chargers fell and lost four games in a row with losses to South Panola, Grenada, Tupelo and Starkville ending their non district play. They will try to recover with their upcoming bye week as district play approaches. The Chargers will begin district play playing against Horn Lake at home.
Golf:
OHS golf is off to a strong start finishing towards the top in all of their tournaments so far. Transfer sophomore Preston Brooke has been very consistent and has finished under par multiple times this season, with strong contributions from junior Josh Scruggs as well. Grace Brown has been doing well for the Lady Chargers squad as their top golfer in every tournament. The Chargers’ next tournament comes on the road to Tunica.
Volleyball:
OHS volleyball team finds itself nearing the playoffs in a great position. Currently ranking fourth in the district, the team is setting itself up for a great run in the district tournament. Senior setter Claire Wicker recently set the school record for career assists earlier this season with over 2,000 career assists.
Esports:
ESports is making its return to OHS with a Fortnite competition. Coach Jivaro Jones has a diverse group of players who have different experience levels with the team. In practice they are attempting to not only improve their skills, but also build teamwork. They are looking forward to the season ahead.
