Oxford High School has recently launched Grab & Bolt, a new lunch program started on October 1st. Driven by Jeannette Clements and other faculty members, this program offers students quicker and more nutritious lunch options.
“By offering the students healthier options, like the salads and the fruit & yogurt, this increases the possibility of students making healthier choices,” Clements said. “I am so happy to see that high school students are picking those healthy options.”
OHS junior Noah Najjar shares his love for the speed of the new Grab & Bolt lunch options.
“If you don’t want to stay up late at night or in the morning to make a lunch this is an easy option for you,” Najjar said. “You can easily grab a lunch and go.”
Najjar isn’t the only one who approves of the new Grab & Bolt program. OHS freshman Tyler Jackson also thinks these new lunches are much faster than regular hot lunches.
“The new Grab & Bolt program helps with the speed of the lunch line because now there are two options for students to choose from,” Jackson said. “They are also really easy because you just grab your meal, type in your number, and go.”
Jackson enjoys the new Grab & Bolt options and appreciates the wide variety of meals.
“They have a lot of really great options and they taste good as well,” Jackson said. “They have different choices of lunches so it’s better for other people’s preferences.”
The overall goal of Grab & Bolt wasn’t just to speed up the lunch line or have healthier options. Clements was also hoping this would attract more students and staff to the school lunch.
“We also were hoping to attract new customers,” Clements said. “Especially, those who didn’t typically eat our hot lunches and only brought lunch boxes from home.”
Clements also sees that the Grab & Bolt helps speed up the hot lunch line. A faster line gives the students more time to eat.
“Creating these and the way we have the lunch lines, they give the option to not have to stand in a line waiting for food,” Clements said. “Students can come into the cafeteria and go a different route than the hot food line, grab a box, enter their ID number, and go sit down more quickly than if all students went through the hot food line.”
Najjar enjoys being able to pick between cold and hot lunches. This way he has more than just the daily hot meals.
“Having the option between hot meals and Grab & Bolt is amazing,” Najjar said. “There are vegan options, there’s a salad, and overall, it’s good. They have lots of variety.”
The school plans to extend this program to more than just three options. They plan to have even more meals to choose from in the future.
“Yes there are definitely plans to expand the options,” Clements said. “Right now we mainly do a ham sandwich, but we may add a turkey sandwich for those that don’t or can’t eat pork. We have discussed doing a baked potato box.”
