Volleyball:
This season was a record breaking season for Lady Charger senior Claire Wicker. Wicker set a new school record for career assists along with joining other Chargers in the 2,000 assist club.
The Lady Chargers finished the season 17-14 with a loss in the first round of the playoffs to the Germantown Mavericks. They also ended the season in 4th place overall in 7A Region 1. The Lady Chargers had only one senior this year causing many talented younger players to step into big key roles when necessary. Starting their season at 9-1, the talented region caused the Chargers problems later in the season pushing them back in the standings.
With new region opponents and almost the entire roster returning, the Lady Charger volleyball team is seeking a big comeback to the top 7A.
Golf:
This year on Oct. 29 the OHS boys golf team finished their season at the state championship meet and placed 7th in the 7A division. Leading the way for the boys this season is sophomore transfer Preston Brooke. Brooke finished in 14th place in the state of Mississippi. With many players stepping away from the program next year, starting spots are waiting to be filled.
The girls team finished in 6th place in the 7A division this season at the girls golf State Championships on Oct. 27. After returning all starters from last season, the team was able to improve during the off season and end their season strong. With a new foundation to build on, the future is bright for the girls golf team.
Cross Country:
The boys and girls cross country teams each finished their seasons at the state championship meet in Clinton, Miss.. The boys team is led by senior captain Bailey Kosko who has been with the program for six years. Kosko finished the year 5th place in the 7A division running at a time of 16:34.9 in that race. Overall the boys team finished in 3rd place at the state meet coming right behind Tupelo and Pearl.
The girls team is highlighted by junior Maggie Irwin who stands out among other runners. Irwin finished the year in 6th place in 7A running at a time of 20:09.29 in the meet. Another exciting season for the cross country team is ahead with success they continue to find year after year.
Swim:
The Oxford High School swim team has recently wrapped up their season on a high note. At the state meet on Oct. 18, both the boys and girls’ teams placed third overall.
Senior boys captain Landon Schock had a record- breaking season this year. Shock broke the school record in the 200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley. Girls senior captain Brooke Sipes also had a very successful season finishing on the podium of every meet competed in this season. Throughout coaching changes and roster changes in recent years, the team has and will continue to be successful.
