“Regretting You” is a book adaptation by the author Colleen Hoover. It is directed by Josh Boone and hit theaters on Oct 24, 2025. “Regretting You” is about suddenly everybody’s world is turned upside down and they are obligated to navigate family secrets, mother and daughter dynamic, and their personal identity.
Many viewers found this movie to be very emotional because the it covers an entanglement between two sisters and their husbands. It reveals how different people grieve, while still trying to figure out their life post life altering loss. Every character had a different perspective on the movie, so Josh Boone wanted them to empathize each character and understand why they reacted this certain way. Other viewers also thought that the movie turned a very serious situation into a romcom and comedic movie instead of addressing the real life issues.
The actors and actresses were off the chart in this movie consisting of Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, Allison Williams, Scott Eastwood, Willa Fitzgerald, Clancy Brown, and Sam Morelos. Mason Thames had a recent success in the film industry by having three different movies in theater: “Black Phone 2,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “Regretting You.” Both “Black Phone 2” and “Regretting You” was in theaters at the same time. All of Mason Thames recent movies were quite successful in profits. Mckenna Grace is a very popular actress from her most known movie “Ghostbuster: Afterlife” who she played Phoebe Spengler. Miller Adams and Clara Grant are love interests in the movie and are played by Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace whom also date in real life contributing to their chemistry on screen. Compared to the love interests Jonah Sullivan and Morgan Grant played by Dave Franco and Allison Williams whose chemistry was not as prevelant in the movie.
The viewers consist mainly of young adults ranging from 16-23. Many of Colleen Hoover’s books are turning into movie adaptations. The most recent one being “It Ends With Us” receiving not great reviews and classified as a bust. This led to low expectations from viewers and being skeptical if this move will execute what the books are. Most viewers were enticed by the casting list and the book. While the popularity of Colleen Hoover books are wide some have opposing views towards the author.
Watching the movie with zero outsider input gives the real raw reaction to the movie. Though the move was amazing and some would give five stars it is clear on why the movie is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some viewers did think that the movie didn’t touch enough on the very serious tragedy, but not every movie has to have this deep entanglement, but instead can have some comedic relief and be a light fun movie to watch. Lexie who was played by Sam Morelos had many lines that resulted in comedic relief during very serious situations.
