Volume I of the final season of Netflix’s original series “Stranger Things” released Nov. 26, 2025. Fans of the show were prepared to be stunned, later episodes lasting up to two hours long. After almost ten years of shooting, starting in mid 2015, fans are more than ready to be terrified and devastated by this final season.
Shown in the full trailer, this season appears to be set back in Hawkins a year after Vecna’s catastrophic attack on the town. The group is back together, including the beloved core characters from past seasons. Karen Wheeler and her youngest daughter, Holly Wheeler, are featured more than previous seasons with H. Wheeler following W. Byers’s plot in season one. Even new characters are suspected to make an appearance this season.
Character W. Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, is the main featured character of season 5, along with Eleven played by Millie Bobby Brown and M. Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard. W. Byers is being highlighted this season with an exciting new storyline. There are also flashbacks to his time in the Upside Down, and the season explores more of how the experience affected him.
The first volume and press for the show have boiled up many questions and theories for the rest of the season, but fans can never be too sure. Viewers are also angered by having to tune in during the holidays, questioning whether or not their focus will be enough to endure the heaviness of Volume II, releasing Dec. 25, 2025. The creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed multiple deaths for this season, creating a frightening suspense for the finale, set to release on Dec. 31, 2025.
Upon watching the first volume, the vibe and aesthetic of this season is already set to be different from past seasons. Viewers can find the season 1 gang back together, but tensions find their way in and strain some of the relationships. The intensity of horror and graphics are turned up all the way for this season, adding to the visualization of what the individual characters go through. Set in 1987, this year brings many cheerful and upbeat songs that writers use to contrast the eeriness of the Upside Down.
Whimsical touches to the season arise with Holly Wheeler, whose character revolves around innocence and fear, but also curiosity. The Duffer Brothers continue to bring this energy every season in a different way. Humor and great comedic timing still prevail in times that need a little uplifting. Playful banter begins just like seasons before, but with new and unique characters.
The final season stand out from all of the other seasons due to the drastic increase in production scale and quality. The Duffer Brothers received the largest budget yet by Netflix, which as a result made the show feel more like a blockbuster film than a series. The cohesiveness of the effects and CGI create a haunting environment visuals. The ominous tones as well during crucial scenes adds to the built up tension. All of these factors built into a great finale.
Fans of this show are clearly attracted to its sense of nostalgia balanced with its roots in science fiction, but the romance of the show is still observed as the denser part of the fanbase. When watching this final season, it is up to the viewer on what is most important to focus on – whether that is your favorite ship, who might be in danger next or the extensive lore behind the characters and story. Only time can tell what the final focus will be for Volume II, but the Duffers and cast have explained during press that the ending is tied up really well. With that, of course, comes the deep sadness that one of Netflix’s most successful and beloved shows is coming to an end.
