The 2025 Oxford Charger football team achieved their best season since 2020. The Chargers took on one of the hardest schedules in the state and finished with a regular season record of 9-1, 5-0 in region play. Oxford started the season on the road for an out of state matchup against Collierville (TN). The game was an instant classic where 48 minutes of football was not enough for a winner to emerge. A 39-36 overtime victory for the Chargers gave them momentum for the rest of the season.
Back on the road for weeks two and three against South Panola and Lafayette, the Chargers were able to find two more victories, bringing their record to 3-0. In the final Crosstown Classic against Lafayette, the 2025 Chargers carved their names in the record books scoring the most points scored in a single game with 63 points.
An undefeated Oxford team then faced their biggest challenge yet: a home matchup against their rival, the Tupelo Golden Wave – ranked 1 in the state at the time of the game. A battle between these teams left the score tied at halftime, where in the second half Tupelo was able to find the endzone once more to win with a final score of 20-13. The Chargers drop to 3-1.
Trying to bounce back after a loss, Oxford then turned their focus to their home game against Grenada. In this game, Oxford introduced their sophomore star running back Demar Jamerson who led the team with 20 carries for 148 yards in his first game at OHS. Jamerson and the Chargers proved they could respond to adversity, and came out of the game on top with their final score of 35-17.
Week six began region play for Oxford with a road game against the Jaguars of Madison Central. A defensive matchup with a late Oxford field goal gave the Chargers their first win in region two heading into the bye week.
Revenge was on the plate for the Chargers in game number seven as they prepared for their game against the Germantown Mavericks – the team that put them out of the playoffs just a season ago. After trailing 35-21 in the third quarter, the Chargers rallied back sending the game into overtime where they found win number six on a two point conversion play from Knox Kiffin to Grayson Bettis.
Two more road region games were on deck for Oxford where they were able to find big wins over Clinton and Murrah getting them ready for their regular season finale, the Little Egg Bowl. Starkville had dominated the series lately with the last Charger win being in 2021. Both teams came out strong, but the Chargers ultimately pulled off their sixth comeback victory of the season and a region championship title.
The 9-1 Chargers were ready for the playoffs as the number one seed of their division, but the first team that stood in their way was the Hernando Tigers. Hernando seemed no match for the red hot Chargers as they won in blowout fashion with a final score of 42-6, sending Oxford to round two.
Horn Lake was up next in the postseason for Oxford as the Eagles came to town. A tied 13-13 game at halftime gave both teams an opportunity to claim their win, but it was the Chargers who stepped up and came out with the 37-27 win, sending them to the North Half Championship.
Oxford was one win away from the state championship, but it was a familiar face standing in their way – the Tupelo Golden Wave. It was a rematch of two rivals, but this time, the game was in Tupelo. A near perfect half for the Chargers gave them a 20-7 lead going into the locker room. However, the Wave found their fire in the second half, and they were able to find the endzone and the win, ending the Chargers’ 2025 campaign.
