In wake of the anniversary of the Columbine shooting, extra police force has been added today to ensure safety at Oxford High School.
Resource Officer Harper Thomas explained that he and Officer Mario Weekley asked the Oxford Police for extra support around the school.
“Any chance we can get to ensure (students) safety, we will,” Thomas said.
The Columbine shooting is not the only reason extra officers are here today. Thomas explained that while students are comfortable with him and Officer Weekley, he wants to create a relationship between Oxford High students and the Oxford Police so that students are more comfortable around police officers.
Thomas said the four to five extra police officers present around the high school campus Monday wasn’t due to the recent threat two Oxford Middle School students allegedly made against their school.
